In this new and possibly semi-regular series, I delve behind the scenes of the gay porn world to uncover a different side to some of gay porn’s biggest stars.

Thanks in large part to social media, being a ‘gay porn star’ isn’t the same taboo, possibly life-destroying secret that it may have been for some performers in the 80s, and even into the 90s. Nowadays, gay porn stars have huge social media followings. Some go on to build massively successful brand empires both within, as well as outside of, the porn business.

The shaming and secrecy of it, to a large degree at least, has been removed and replaced with adoration, fame, success, money and power – on par with other entertainment sectors within the LGBT community such as drag, theatre, modelling and digital influencing.

So with that in mind, and being a constantly curious kinda guy, I came up with an idea for a series of articles called ‘Behind The Porn’ .

In many ways, I’m more interested in what people do behind the scenes in their every day lives, than what they do in public. To me, the little things in life can be some of the most interesting stuff to explore and discuss.

People are never the totality of the small slice of them that we see in public, so what I’d like to do with this series, is delve deeper and discover a different side to some of the most successful, well known gay porn stars in the world.

Introducing: Wesley Woods

I kick things off with a lovely guy called Wesley Woods.

Wesley is a relative newcomer to the porn world, having started his career in November of 2015. Despite his short time in the industry, he’s racked up some impressive performances, with big names including Trenton Ducati, Billy Santoro, Ryan Rose, Johnny Rapid and Colby Keller.

The 30 year old Texas native has lived in many different spots around the country. These include Chicago and Las Vegas, where he has performed at various comedy clubs before moving to Los Angeles to continue pursuing his dreams in the world of comedy. That’s the first of many interesting things you’ll learn about Wesley in the 10 questions below.

10 Questions With Wesley:

Little Gay Blog – You’re now known for your successful career in porn, but before that, you were a stand-up comedian. How did you get into comedy and what was that experience like?

Wesley – I’ve always wanted to do stand-up – something about having the ability to get up in front of people, tell a story and make others laugh always intrigued me. It’s a joyous thing to see people come together over commonalities – we really aren’t so different.

When you were doing comedy, were you out and known as a ‘gay comic’ or did you leave that side of your life out of your comedy?

I’m very honest and authentic in everything I do. I would never hide who I am for any person and/ or reason, that’s not the life I’ve chosen to live.

As a comedian, I’m assuming you must be a fan of The Simpsons. What’s your favourite joke or line from the show?

Assumptions never turn out well for people. Bless your heart.

OK, bit of an obvious question but how – and why – did you change career paths from comedy to porn?

I’ve not changed career paths – I’ve simply created a new persona combining porn with my comedy. Who doesn’t enjoy laughing and pleasure? I plan to live forever.

What’s your favourite thing about working in porn – and what’s been the most unexpected thing you’ve encountered in your porn career so far?

I LOVE the traveling and creative people one meets while in the industry – there are lots of characters.

I did not expect to be so comfortable douching, it’s just another Monday morning office meeting for me.

Changing gears a bit, who is your best friend and how would they describe you in 3 words?

My younger brother who is a pastor is my best friend. Witty, athletic, loving (I asked).

What’s the last music you bought/streamed/downloaded, the last TV show you watched and the last movie you actually saw in a cinema?

Music – Lil Peep “Suck my blood.”
TV Show – Anything on ESPN
Movie? Can’t remember the last time I went…Who wants to take me?!

A lot of the gay community is focused on looks and appearance. Are you comfortable with your appearance, and what are your thoughts generally about the lengths (some) gay guys go to to look good?

It’s not just our community that feels this way – have you heard of the Kardashians, the Real Housewives, etc? It’s an American way of life.

Personally, I’m really big on self-love. This idea that our exoskeleton is more important than our soul is an idea I find odd.

It saddens me that or community has gotten away from the days when a gay bar/club was a place of camaraderie. Physical traits are important to people, saying they are not is absurd. I completely support anyone’s decision to do as they please to make themselves happy, as long as they are good to others.

What qualities do you find sexy in a guy and why?
I’m completely turned on by laughter, confidence and how someone treats others – it’s a good indication on how they will treat you.

And lastly, what would you like to be doing in 5 years from now?

5 months, 5 years, 50 years – I want to make a difference in the world – how big or small doesn’t matter, as long as I’ve lived a life that makes it easier for others to live.
