The Little Gay Blog has only recently joined Instagram. Using Instagram primarily for the blog, I follow a lot of what could be called, ‘gay Instagram’ users. These are accounts of either gay people or gay businesses. Over the last few months, some gay Instagram users have really stood out.
Here are 33 gay Instagram users worth following:
Local gay Instagram lads
One of the things that’s awesome about Instagram, and I guess this applies more broadly to social media as well, is that it brings you into contact with people you’d never meet otherwise. Often times we think of this as connecting us with people who might live half a planet away.
But it’s also true of people who live in the same town or city as you, who you might otherwise never meet or interact with. I follow a bunch of cool, local lads (for me that means they live in South-East Queensland, Australia). While I’ve never met any of them in person, by following them, I’ve gained a small insight into their lives.
They all seem like genuinely nice, down to earth and friendly fellas. Here they are:
Graham posts a cool mix of pics on his Instagram. You can see he has a keen interest in fitness, but he’s not showy or posey in any way. He’s actually quite quirky and seems really lovely. You can see how important family and friends are to him as well.
One of the things I love about following Shane, is that you get an insight into an often overlooked demographic within the gay community – country guys. And while you may be able to take the boy out of the country (Shane now lives in Brisbane with his fiancé), you can’t take the country out of the boy. Shane runs 3 successful businesses (two related to his passion of horses and horse riding. He’s been riding horses since he was 3!). While his latest venture, a restaurant/cafe was recently named as one of the best 5 cafes to open in Brisbane in 2015!
Sean’s profile is upbeat, Summery and fitness focused. Hmmm, maybe there’s something abot living in such a beautiful part of the world like Brisbane. It seems to bring out the be(a)st in us!
Dan’s another guy who I guess I enjoy following because he seems to be another really cool, down to earth guy. He’s interested in health and fitness (interests that I share) and I enjoy watching him on his journey towards achieving his goals in those areas. He seems to be a sporty, outdoorsy kinda guy, which again, are things that I enjoy too.
Firstly, this is one of the funniest usernames I’ve come across. And so of course it only makes sense that Shawn’s sense of humour really comes across on his Instagram account.
Tom is Irish, living in Brisbane (and single, fellas!) You can tell by following his account that he is having an awesome time Down Under. (Aah, to be young and travelling the world!)
Marcus had an amazing year, representing Brissie as Mr BrisBear 2014. He passed on the title last October and says his life has quietened down a lot since then. His Instagram account hasn’t. In fact, Marcus uses Instagram more than Facebook these days. He says he prefers the diversity of pics on Instagram, and who can blame him, right?
Aussie gay Instagram lads
I’ve come across a bunch of wonderful, talented, funny and successful gay gays all across Australia. Wherever they live, it’s always fun getting a slice of life insight into cool peeps. Here are a few Aussie gay Instagram lads worth following:
I actually interviewed Jay last year for an article about tropical north Queensland. His worth ethic and drive is truly inspiring. The end result is an amazing magazine, FNQ Magazine, plus he’s providing a massive boost to LGBT tourism in the area. Jay may exude tropical urban coolness, but he actually grew up on a farm. Jay loves Instagram and reckons it’ll become the way of the world. After all, a picture tells a thousand words!
Bold. Smart. Strong. Funny. Sexy. Any of these qualities on their own would be enough, but Nic Holas is a combination of all of them. A self described “queer bigmouth”‘, he’s one of the most progressive and passionate voices in Australia’s gay community today. Yes, I’m a total fan girl, and you know what? I’m perfectly fine with that :-)
Chris is a 26 year old accountant living in Melbourne. His interests include fitness, travel, fashion, languages and cars. I only found out through a Polish-written Christmas Eve post that he has a Polish background (like yours truly). Chris’ Instagram account exudes a really cool, positive vibe – which is one of his favourite things about Instagram as a platform.
You know when you just see someone, and you can tell they’re a nice person? Well, Elliot fits that bill for me. He just seems like an all-round lovely guy. He’s in his 40s, lives in Melbourne and shares some interesting snaps from his every day life.
Another cool username (I’m such a sucker for those!) Craig is based in Sydney. He describes himself as “cheeky, flirty, geeky.” His Instagram seems to back that up!

Awesome international gay Instagram guys
Alright, we’re going global now. Admittedly I only follow users who post in English, so it’s an English speaking global we’re talking about here. That means mainly US and UK really. Here are a few choice Instagrammers:
I had the pleasure of interviewing Josh to discuss the book he wrote called Porn Again. Josh was so awesome and friendly to deal with. Since then, his writing skills have been snapped up Gay Times mag, where he contributes as their sex advice columnist. His Instagram account gives us a sneak peak into all the cool, celebrity-filled adventures he’s having.
The Nomadic Boys rock – there’s no other way to put it. Follow real-life couple, Stefan (Greek from London) and Sebastien (French) as they adventure their way across the planet.
Jonathan is 30, lives in Bakersfield California, works in mental health and is single. Oh and you can also add Mr Bear LA and Mr SoCal Cub 2015-16 to his resume too!
Follow this Californian, army veteran and father of three as he chronicles his life, one selfie at a time. (Spoiler alert – lots of sexy, shirtless selfies abound!)
Cool gay businesses & creatives
There are a lot of cool gay businesses and creative types to be found on Instagram. Some I have had the pleasure of interviewing for the blog. But most are just people or businesses that I love popping up in my feed. They’re always sharing awesome, unique and interesting content. Which is kinda the point of social media, right?
IMPORTANT POINT – I am not affiliated with any business or person listed here in any way. Nor have I been paid by any business or person. These are purely my own personal recommendations. The Little Gay Blog is proud to adhere to a strict no advertising/no sponsorship policy.
Gay Times magazine is a British publication often dubbed “the world’s original gay magazine”. Firstly, props to any print publication able to survive in 2016. That’s a challenge in itself. But no wonder these guys are killing it. Their online presence is amazing. Follow them on Instagram and your feed will be filled with funny, sexy and smart posts daily!
Guide to Gay is an awesome social and travel portal, aimed specifically at the LGBT community. There’s lot of humour on the page. But my favourite thing about them is the throwback content they post. It’s stuff I don’t come across anywhere else – which I love!
Meatzine offers a seriously sexy Instagram account. What I love about their brand of sexiness though, is that it embraces a wide variety of men, all with different looks. There’s older guys, young guys, smooth guys and hairy guys, as well as guys of all shapes and sizes. I passionately believe that we should embrace more than just a few beauty ideals. I think Meatzine does a fantastic job in doing just that!
Um so yeah, the name kinda says it all, right? This account shows off some serious art talent. Being Instagram, this account is self-censored. (If you want to see the uncensored and obviously NSFW stuff, you can visit the Butch Dick Art Tumblr page).
Yep, more cool, edgy artwork and design aimed at the LGBT community. It’s like there’s a mini-renaissance happening in the world of gay art and design. Good times!
Bear Skn brings together two things that I love. One – body acceptance. Regular readers will know this is something I believe in passionately, and advocate for on this blog quite a lot. (Stepping down from my pedestal now). Two – bamboo underwear. In fact, anything made of bamboo at all. I’ve recently bought bamboo underwear, bamboo socks and bamboo sheets. As a material, bamboo adjusts to your body temperature. This comes in very handy during a balmy Aussie Summer!
Gayletter is an awesome media outlet in the post-gay queer world. Their magazine, as well as their Instagram account, is beautiful presented, unique and utterly inspiring!
Hot Aussie dudes in very little clothing. Need I say more?
The concept behind Next Gay Thing is a really cool one. I’ve seen it in other industries, but never seen anything specially targeted at gay guys. The way it works is you sign up for a monthly fee, and each month you receive a selection of carefully curated goodies (like underwear and male grooming samples). Pretty cool, huh?
Army of Men is a new Australian company making leather gear for guys into the leather/kink/fetish scene. Their Instagram account not only provides a nice dose of eye candy, it proves that the leather/kink/fetish is not just surviving – but thriving – amongst the younger generation/s.
Hello Mr bills itself as a magazine for “men who date men.’ But it’s so much more than that for me. It’s the first place where I experienced a level of gay creativity and freedom of expression – unknown to me until I thumbed through the first edition over a year ago now. More than just articles, Hello Mr is an eclectic mix of poetry, long and short form pieces, fiction and non-fiction, as well as celebrating all forms of visual expression.
StudSketch, as the name suggests, is another brilliant and talented artist showcase of some amazing male art. I love the bright colours used, and the old-school feel these pieces have. Definitely worth a follow!
Masc Nation produces and sells clothing with an agenda – to embrace and redefine labels. Selling shirts with sexual labels front and centre is a daring move. I like it because it’s thought provoking, and sometimes, a bit confronting.
Easton Mountain is a place for the soul. It’s a community retreat center and sanctuary created by gay men as a ‘gift to the world’. It provides a number of workshops, programs, and events that aim to to celebrate, heal, transform, and integrate body, mind, and spirit. I cannot wait to visit it one day!
So there you have it. My wrap up of 33 gay Instagram accounts worth following. Actually, sorry….that’s not 100% correct. There’s one more I forgot to add to the list. Mine! If you haven’t already, be sure to follow the Little Gay Blog on Instagram!
