Now I’m not a naturally gifted crafty person myself, but I secretly really want to be. I’ve tried woodworking, soap and candle making. All to very limited success (putting it mildly). Heck, I can’t even wrap a Christmas present without it looking like it got attacked by a dog sometime between me wrapping it, and giving it to the recipient.
But I’m totally cool with this. And it doesn’t curb my love of the festive holiday season at all. So if you’re in the mood to get your craft on, check out a few awesome crafty projects you might like to try. They all look like fun, and they won’t break the bank either.
Even though this is coming into the busiest time of the year for these craft-loving guys, they were kind enough to give Little Gay Blog readers bit more of an insight into their love of craft.
Here’s what we chatted about:
Little Gay Blog – How did you develop a passion for crafting in the first place? Is it something you loved doing as a kid, or did it develop later in life?
Crafty Lumberjacks – Yes, it’s actually something we loved doing as kids and now as adults! We’ve both been DIY-ing since we were young.
Dennis’ mum was a vendor at local craft fairs, on Long Island where he grew up, and would act as her assistant.
Andrew worked his way through vintage craft books and always did the holiday decorating for his family in Maryland.
It’s so great (and kinda unique) to find a couple equally interested in crafting. I’d imagine you each have your own unique style and interests within crafting?
We’ve been together for 5 years now and our styles definitely have morphed together. Luckily, we both grew up with a huge passion for the holidays, so that’s the time of year we craft the most.
We love to make things for other people and for our own apartment because it’s expensive living in New York!
You guys run an awesome blog called Crafty Lumberjacks. What made you decide to start blogging and what’s the reaction been like?
We’re actually both actors and met while traveling with the National Tour of “Fiddler on the Roof.” We found ourselves crafting in our off-hours and making things for our cast members.
After a little peer pressure from our friends, the blog was born! It originally started with us sharing our life together after tour but then developed into DIY tutorials and craft inspirations we were doing around our apartment.
And lastly, what tips or advice do you have for guys that might not think they’d be any good at crafts?
There are a ton of levels to crafting and now online, you can find detailed tutorials for anything. Have fun with it! Invite some friends over for a crafts and cocktails night!
